Which TV-shows for little kids?

Beitrag von MaareMum »

I need some recommendations for suitable English TV-shows for small children (age 4).

I find most shows very annoying and I am getting out of ideas.

What my kid really loves is "Peppa Pig", so we are looking for something similar.

What we already know but my kid doesn't like:

- Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom
- Fireman Sam
- Charlie and Lola
- Bob the Builder
- Thomas the Tank Engine

What we already know but I don't like:

- Octonauts
- Dora the Explorer

I need some calm and slow cartoons with short episodes, nothing of that hectic trash, and not as annoying as "Dora" or "Octonauts". Really pretty much like "Peppa Pig", or like "Janoschs Traumstunde" in German. We need it in English though!

Any suggestions?

Perhaps you'd like "Bali", you can get it in German and English on DVD (I think it's a Canadian show though). Short episodes, nice stories, nothing trashy, I can even discover a slight AP touch there. :)

Oh, and 'Clifford's Puppy Days' (available on Netflix). My children love it!

Sarah & Duck, The Adventures of Abney and Teal, Dipdap ( :D ). Well, maybe not quite what you're looking for, but my kids like them.

Heroes of the city? A little stupid, a little boring for grown-ups but still cute...

What about Dr. Snuggles? Or Strawberry Shortcake? Maybe too long...Trotro?

In the Night Garden!
It's longer than a short episode though. And I have no idea if you can get it in Germany (we receive British TV). But very suitable for toddlers. Very calm and peaceful.

Maybe Balamory?

64 Zoo Lane?

Waybuloo?

Or, if on youtube: My kid loves stories of Tayo the little bus!

Or you could look up what CBeebies is showing and see for yourself, if something would be there which your kid likes:

In the Night Garden does my head in! I always do wonder what the maker of ITNG was on when he cooked up the idea

My older daughter loves Caillou (who in one episode is described as four years old). And our whole Family enjoys "Mother Goose Club". Mother goose Club is songs and nursery rhymes, no stories. But still adorable, even our two-year-old sings along.

Then peppa pig and Timmy.
